DAY 1 ZAGREB - Arrival
Arrival at Zagreb Airport and transfer to hotel.
Dinner and overnight in Zagreb.

DAY 2 ZAGREB
Morning city tour of Zagreb, including the fortified Upper Town, the city’s historical centre, St. Mark’s Church with its multicoloured roof, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Mirogoj cemetery. In 13th and 14th centuries, the Jewish communities in Zagreb were able to rule themselves with a leader called "Magistratus Judaeorum." This ended in 1456 when Jews, along with most non-Catholic Croats, were forced out during the rule of the first Habsburg monarchs. After the Edict of Tolerance issued by Habsburg Emperor Joseph II in 1782, the Jews started settling in the Zagreb area and in 1806 some 70 of them founded the Jewish Community. Visit Bet Israel Jewish Community Centre and the Zagreb Synagogue. Visit Bet Israel’s Elementary Jewish School Lauder-Hugo Kon and Nursing home Lavoslav Schwarz.

DAY 3 ZAGREB - JASENOVAC - PLITVICE
Morning departure for Jasenovac, the largest concentration and extermination camp in Croatia during World War II. At the outbreak of World War II, 23,000 Jews lived in Croatia. Jasenovac was established in August 1941, and was dismantled only in April 1945. According to incomplete lists some 60000 names were identified in Jasenovac and Stara Gradiška camps, mostly Serbs, Jews and Gypsies. According to some estimations, the total number of victims varies and goes far over this number. Visit to Jasenovac Memorial Centre. Continuation to Plitvice.

DAY 4 PLITVICE - SPLIT
After breakfast, we tour the Plitvice Lakes National Park - the 16 crystal-blue lakes lying at different levels linked together by spectacular cascading waterfalls. The forest around the lakes with a beautiful beech, fir and maple trees is the home to bear, wolves, wild board, deer and many rare bird species. The largest national park in Croatia, Plitvice was included on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1979 in recognition of its "outstanding natural beauty, and the undisturbed production of travertine (tuff) through chemical and biological activity”. Departure for Split.

DAY 5 SPLIT
Morning sightseeing tour of Split, including the palace of Roman Emperor Diocletian, with Peristyle, Jupiter’s Temple and St. Duimus Cathedral. There are carvings of menorahs on the walls of the same room that houses the marble dining table in the Diocletian’s Palace. These carvings do provide evidence of an early Jewish presence in Split. Visit to the restored Synagogue of Split, located along the narrow street called Židovski prolaz (Jewish Passage), the Jewish Ghetto and Morpurgo Library. Visit to the Jewish Community Centre in Split. Afternoon drive to Marjan Hill for a visit to the Old Jewish Cemetery dating from 1537, from where we enjoy a magnificent view of Split. Return to hotel for overnight.

DAY 6 SPLIT - DUBROVNIK
Breakfast followed by departure to Dubrovnik, driving along the Makarska Riviera with long pebble beaches and across picturesque Neretva River Delta. Enjoy the view of Dalmatian islands stretching southwards from Split to Dubrovnik: Brac, Hvar, Korcula, Mljet and Elaphite Islands. Afternoon arrival in Dubrovnik. The rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 7 DUBROVNIK
Morning panoramic tour of Dubrovnik, including a visit to the old Jewish Cemetery “Bet Haim”. Sightseeing tour of the Old City includes the Jewish Fountain, Franciscan Monastery with the third oldest pharmacy in Europe, Rector’s Palace and the Cathedral. From 1352 Jews were tolerated as itinerant traders in Dubrovnik although the city initially denied them residence. In 1546, a Jewish ghetto was established in a small street called Ulica Žudioska (Jewish Street). They played a part in international commerce and were pioneers in marine insurance. Visit to the Jewish Ghetto and the Synagogue of Dubrovnik, the third oldest Synagogue in Europe, built in 1408. Situated within a 13th century Gothic house, the Synagogue is one of the most cherished sites of Sephardic culture in the world. Visit to the Jewish Community Centre. Guest speaker will talk about the history of Jewish Community in Dubrovnik.

DAY 8 DUBROVNIK - STOLAC - MOSTAR - SARAJEVO
Early morning departure from Dubrovnik for Bosnia and Herzegovina. We stop enroute in Krajšina near Stolac to visit the grave of Moše Danon, highly respected rabbi of Sarajevo, also considered to be a holy man who suddenly died here on his way to Israel in 1889. Sightseeing tour of the Old Town of Mostar, recently included in the UNESCO’s List of World Cultural Heritage. Under the Turkish rule the city was an important trade settlement that developed on the banks of the Neretva River. We tour its elegant Bridge, Old Bazaar, the Mosque and a typical Turkish house. We continue our drive to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

DAY 9 SARAJEVO
Sightseeing tour of Sarajevo includes the old colourful Bazaar BašËaršija, Gazi Husref Bey`s Mosque, Tunnel War Museum and the National Museum that preserves the oldest Sephardic Haggadah in the world, produced in Barcelona in 1350. As tens of thousands of Jews fled from the Spanish and Portugal inquisitions, Sultan Bayezid II of the Ottoman Empire welcomed those who were able to reach his territories. The first Sephardic Jews arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1500 and settled mainly in Sarajevo, while the Ashkenazi arrived from Hungary in 1686. Visit to the impressive Ashkenazi Synagogue, decorated in neo-Moorish style, built on the left bank of the Miljacka River in 1902. Visit to the Museum of the Jews of Bosnia and Herzegovina and to the Jewish Cemetery where we can see Geniza, the graves of the used sacred books.

DAY 10 SARAJEVO - ZENICA - DOBOJ - BELGRADE
Breakfast followed by departure for Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. We drive north to Zenica for a visit to its Synagogue dating from 1903, later turned into the Gallery of Arts. Continuation to Doboj for a visit to its new Synagogue built in 2003, housing the door of the old Synagogue of Doboj dating from 1872. Meeting with the members of the Jewish Community of Doboj. We proceed to Belgrade, one of the oldest cities in Europe that developed at the crossroads of the trade routes leading from the East to the West. Late afternoon arrival in Belgrade.

DAY 11 BELGRADE
Sightseeing tour of Belgrade, lying at the confluence of the Danube and Sava Rivers, including Kalemegdan with its fortress and a beautiful view of the confluence. The written records of Jewish Community in Belgrade date back to 16th century. There has been an old Synagogue near Jevrejska Ulica (Jewish Street), on the bank of the Danube River, built in 17th century, as well as a ritual bathroom. The Jews had lived in that part of the city until World War I. We tour the Synagogue of Belgrade built in 1926 by Ashkenazi Jews and Jewish Historical Museum founded in 1948 with the permanent exposition of arts, architecture and traditions of the Jews living in the area of the former Yugoslavia. Visit to the seat of the Association of the Jewish Communities of Serbia.

DAY 12 BELGRADE - Excursion to NOVI SAD and SUBOTICA
Full day tour to Novi Sad and Subotica. Upon arrival in Novi Sad, a sightseeing tour including the Petrovaradin Fortress and the Baroque city centre. Visit to the Jewish Community Center and to its Ashkenazi Synagogue built by Baumhorn, Jewish architect who designed 24 synagogues in his career. The Synagogue’s impressive size reflects the optimistic attitude prevailing among the local Jews in the years before the First World War. In 1991, the Synagogue was leased to the city for a period of 20 years as a concert hall. Nevertheless, it remained at disposal of the Jewish Community for celebrating Jewish holidays. Drive to Subotica, situated close to the Hungarian border, where Ashkenazi Jewish Community was established in 1775. Visit its magnificent Secessionist style Synagogue, built in 1902, and its Jewish Community Center. Late afternoon return to Belgrade.

DAY 13 BELGRADE - Departure
Transfer to Belgrade Airport for your return flight.

    PAYMENT INFORMATION

    How to Make Your Reservation: After selecting your tour, simply click on SEND REQUEST button, and fill in the booking form, with as much details as possible. Please make your reservations as early as possible since many of our tours are completely filled 4 to 6 months before departure.

    Payment Method: Once you are confirmed the availability of tour, we will send you pro forma invoice for deposit and final payment. Payments can be done in three ways: PAYPAL, credit card (VISA, AMEX,and Mastercard), or money transfer order to our bank account. 

    Deposit: The amount of deposit differs depending on the tour, but is usually 30% of the total amount adn is due from 7 to 14 days after the reservation. Upon receiving the deposit or credit card authorization form, you will be sent a depostit confirmation.

    Final Payment: Final payment is usually due 45 days prior to the departure date. If reservations are made less than 45 days prior to departure, payment in full is required at the time of booking. If final payments are not received on time, Avansa Travel d.o.o. may cancel the reservation and invoke the cancellation fee.

    Confirmation: Once we recieve the final payment in total ammount you will be sent the VOUCHER with booking details. Please print it and take it with you to present it to our travel representative at the airport.

    Pricing: Price quoted is per person based on double occupancy. The Operator reserves the right to adjust prices due to fluctuations in foreign exchange rates, imposed fuel surcharges, taxes, charges and levies imposed by any third party including government and its agencies. Should these change the price of your tour by more than 10% you may cancel without penalty within 7 days after we notify you of the increase.

    Cancellation, Changes and Refunds: If your cancellation in writing is received more than 45 days prior to departure, your deposit will be FULLY REFUNDED. For cancellations or changes thereafter, the following cancelation fees will apply:

    In addition, no refunds are made for unused portions of a tour including but not limited to missed meals or sightseeing, motorcoach travel and the non-use of hotel rooms.

    Refund claims: Any complaint about your tour should be made immediately to the tour director.
    All refund claims must be submitted to Avansa Travel in writing within 15 days of the completion of the tour.

    Booking is considered to be finalized upon recipient of confirmation from Avansa Travel ltd.

    You MUST provide us with passport details and ensure you have valid travel documents (passport obligatory and visa if required). All visa requirements are the sole responsibility of the traveler. Requirements may change and you must check the up-to-date position in good time before departure. It is your responsibility to ensure you are in possession of all necessary travel and health documents before departure. All costs incurred in obtaining such documentation must be paid by you. We cannot accept liability if you are refused entry on to any transport or into any country due to failure on your part to carry correct documentation. If failure to have any necessary travel or other documents results in fines, surcharges or other financial penalty being imposed on us, you will be responsible for reimbursing us accordingly.
